A Thompson Sustainable Home is Sustainability at work for you ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND A 9.5 STAR RATING In traditional homes the major energy costs are associated with water heating and space cooling and heating. In designing the sustainable home, the focus has been concentrated around reducing the energy use in these two main areas. A traditional 5 star rated home uses in excess of 55MJ/sq.m of power. The 9.5 star rated home uses 20.5 MJ/sq.m, which is a significant saving in the energy used per square meter in the home. In addition, when combined with the electricity key tag which cuts all electricity to the house when not required, (besides your chosen power outlets i.e. fridge). This can save you upwards of $1,200 per year on your energy bill. From 1 May 2010, a 6 Star energy rating is the minimum requirement when constructing a new home in QLD. Purchasing the 9.5 star energy efficient home not only saves you money over the life-cycle of the home but you are future proofing your asset and protecting your investment from building obsolescence. EASE OF CONSTRUCTIONThe ‘Bloom 159’ has been constructed in a transportable version to highlight the flexibility of the design. This version can help not only with steep residential land but provides mining communities, government housing and investors the opportunity to have contemporary sustainable homes in areas where trades people are limited or larger numbers of homes need to be constructed quickly. The ‘Thompson Sustainable Home’ can be prefabricated and transported to the location to assemble on site in just 5 days or the home can be constructed on site in 7 weeks. Due to the efficiencies of the ‘Thompson Sustainable Home’ and its building staff, your home will be built in significantly less time than traditional build times. SUSTAINABILITYWhat does sustainability and a good energy efficient design really mean for you? In general sustainability refers to designing a home that minimises environmental impact through effective, efficient design processes. This begins with the building materials used in construction, the life expectancy of these materials and the maintenance required in the future. James Hardie’s exclusive sustainable materials used in the design process of this home have attributed to it becoming Australia’s first 9.5 star rated home.
ADAPTABILITYThe home can be prefabricated or constructed on site. Cladding and facades can be substituted for various different options and ‘Thompson Sustainable Home’ staff are very flexible in their design plans and processes. If you have additional requirements, we are very adaptable in the design process and only too happy to strive to meet your needs. Deconstruction of the home for reuse is a vital part in the role of sustainability of the home and the home can simply be moved to another location with removal taking 3 days and another 5 days needed for reconstruction. ARCHITECTURALLY INSPIREDAlthough the ‘Bloom 159’ has been built with affordable living in mind, the Home’s cosmet ic appearance has not been substituted and the home is architecturally inspiring in its design. James Hardie have been heavily involved with the product selection, ensuring sustainable long life and low maintenance product s used in construction of the home. The ‘Bloom 159’ has been engineered to suit a 300 square meter block with a frontage of 10 meters. This complements the affordability of the house as a smaller land area can be utilised. |
